Or, if you’re Kasey McCravey, it can make for some viral video-inducing aerial acrobatics:
McCravey, a senior kinesiology major at Army West Point, made her impressive leap (and maybe more-impressive reach-back to tag home) to give her squad a 2-0 lead in the Patriot League softball tournament semifinal Saturday, which the Black Knights would win 2-1. It was the team’s second win of the day and would be its last: Boston University earned a 9-0 victory in Sunday’s final.
The Black Knights (39-20) posted the most wins in program history in 2016, with team captain McCravey named Patriot League Player of the Year after leading the team in batting average (.399), home runs (6) and runs batted in (37). The infielder earned league Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2015.
The leap earned airtime on ESPN and online spotlight at Bleacher Report and USA Today’s For the Win sports blog. The video on Army West Point’s official athletics YouTube channel has more than 21,000 hits; a preseason hype video for the football team posted May 6 had 567 hits as of Monday morning.
