A soldier assigned to the National Security Agency in San Antonio, Texas, was sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison for illegally recording teen sisters at their home, reports the news website My San Antonio.
Spc. James Frank Johannes pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and invasive video recording last year. He said he had taken videos of the sisters, who were 14 and 16 at the time, through the windows of their home while they were getting ready to go to seminary at a local Mormon facility where Johannes was a youth leader, according to the news report.
Johannes was caught last year when he brought his cellphone into a restricted area of the NSA facility where such devices are prohibited. Officials asked to check his phone to be sure he had no classified material on it, and they discovered photos and videos of an underage girl getting undressed and stepping into the shower, along with other similar images, the news report said.
Johannes was charged following an investigation by the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division, which identified the girls.
He is awaiting discharge from the Army, and serving concurrent sentences of 72 months for possessing child pornography and 24 months for recording the images, the news report said. He has been ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to the girls.
