Fort Hood celebrates Month of the Military Child with a focus on preventing child abuse

In 1986, Caspar Weinberger, the former secretary of defense, established April as the Month of the Military Child. 

In honor of this declaration, Fort Hood Garrison Commander Col. Todd Fox signed a proclamation on Tuesday that also designated April as Fort Hood Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Killeen Daily Herald reported.

The dedication recognizes the contributions and sacrifices military children have made “in support of their soldiers and the Army mission,” Brenda Brown, Child and Youth Services instructional program specialist told the paper.

“We come together today to celebrate the sacrifices and strength of our military children and to demonstrate the commitment of the Fort Hood community to the well-being, care and safety of our children,” Fox said. “They say it takes a village to raise a child, so the well-being of our military children requires not only the attention of their parents, but also the concern and support of us all. If you see someone struggling, reach out and remind them of the resources available in our community.”
