Spc. Jodie Henderson, 27, deployed with 381st Military Police Company to Afghanistan for a year, returning in January 2013. He enlisted with the National Guard in September 2007, according to information provided by the Guard, and earned an Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal and Army Commendation Medal, among other honors and decorations. He was still attached to the 381st at the time of his death.
Officers were called to the scene at 6:50 a.m. for a “man down” and discovered Henderson’s body, said Commander Tim Corbett of St. Joseph’s County Metro Homicide. Individual nearby heard arguments and shouting at 1 a.m. and again at 4 a.m. that morning, the South Bend Tribune reported.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Spc. Jodie Henderson during this difficult time,” the Guard said in a statement provided Tuesday to Army Times. “All Guardsmen are integral part of our team, we are saddened by his loss and we offer our sincere condolences to his family. All our support channels are available during this moment of need.”
Investigators have interviewed between 15 and 20 people regarding the incident, Corbett said Tuesday. They have “made progress” in identifying those responsible but are not releasing any names or further details, he said.
