WEST POINT, N.Y. — Donations are being sought so volunteers can lay wreaths at all of the more than 7,000 gravestones in the historic West Point Cemetery at the U.S. Military Academy.
Each year, the group Wreaths Across America lays wreaths on the graves at Arlington National Cemetery and hundreds of veterans’ cemeteries and other locations around the nation. This year’s event is Dec. 5. The West Point wreath-laying is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
Jackie McNally, one of the organizers of the effort at West Point, tells the Times Herald-Record of Middletown, New York, that the local group is still about 1,000 wreaths short of being able to cover every grave in the cemetery.
All wreaths laid by the group come from private donations. It costs $15 to donate a wreath.
